In a timely conversation following the 2026 Spring Meetings, Rodrigo Valdés, Director of the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department, explores the growing fiscal pressures countries are facing, as rising development needs, tighter financing conditions, and high debt levels continue to constrain fiscal space. He outlines how governments can create room for action through stronger domestic revenue mobilization, improved expenditure prioritization, and well-designed fiscal adjustment strategies. 

The TADAT Secretariat, in collaboration with the African Regional Technical Assistance Center I (AFRITAC West I), co-hosted a regional workshop in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, with the Ivoirian tax administration.

Senior officials from Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, and Mauritania participated either in person or remotely. The program offered an opportunity to reflect on a decade of TADAT implementation, introduce the good practices and assessment criteria set out in the updated 2025 TADAT Field Guide, and share how TADAT results can be used to design and implement reforms.
